Looking Past the Fire Identifying Actors and Motives

Tuesday, April 25, 2023 (1:00pm - 5:00pm) (Ballroom 2)
Wednesday, April 26, 2023 (1:00pm - 5:00pm) (Ballroom 1)

This presentation is based on the underlying information surrounding a fire investigation, past that surrounding the O&C of the event being investigated. Students will delve into the investigation surrounding the fire event, including physical evidence, witness statements, official reports past the O&C, which can assist in identifying the motive and/or the actor responsible. Case Studies will be utilized to highlight the importance of this underlying information, that does not appear to have a direct link to the O&C; however, it will assist with the desired outcome of an arrest or vindication of the actor responsible for the fire event. It is the intention of this block of instruction to assist investigators to not become ultra-focused on the O&C but the investigation as a whole.
