I will discuss UL testing standards, limits of these standards, areas of concern, known points of failure and untested applications. This knowledge will assist in establish a foundation to your fire investigations and identify uncommon causes.
I will also address the issues we face with confined space installation, capture of heat, and fire behavior within these confined spaces including ventilation and its effect on the surrounding materials.
There will be case reviews as well as discussion on the increased gas appliance fires, direct vent concerns, open fireplaces in exterior locations, modular fireplace construction and modifications, as well as BTU rating and heat release rate concerns in these hearth products.
